40. Workin’ at the car wash, girl
At the car wash
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Talkin’ about the car wash, girl
Hah, it’s probably stuck in your head now, isn’t it? Sorry about that.
Four friends and I decided to start a car washing service as a part of the small business unit we’re doing at school. The water restrictions are more severe now than ever in Australia, so we need to try and work our way around that. Friend One mentioned that she has a recycled water tank at her house, so we all agreed to do a practice run on her mum’s car.
We all met up at her house today and spent an hour cleaning it inside out. It was spotless when we were finished, and we did a great job if I do say so myself. We had plenty of water left over when we were done and we weren’t sure what to do with it. I took a chance and walked up to one of Friend One’s neighbours who was mowing his lawn, and asked him if he’d be interested in letting us wash his car. He didn’t understand a word I said. Fortunately, Friend Two spoke fluent Mandarin and was able to translate.
We ended up washing three cars for him at five dollars apiece. Later, when Friend One’s mum came home she was impressed enough to offer us ten dollars of her own.
We ended up making a twenty five dollar profit on a day we set aside solely for practice, which isn’t too shabby at all. The fact that we all enjoyed ourselves immensely is a lovely bonus.
This is the kind of school work I can really grow to love.
