Auditions.

I auditioned for my school production today. It was…interesting, considering that the audition was for singers and I couldn’t carry a tune to save my life. Funnily enough, I didn’t get a callback.

(My brother, who also auditoned, DID get a callback and won’t let me hear the end of it.)

I don’t mind not having a lead role, I’d just like to be a part of it.
I also want to join this year’s Senior School Council, Debate Team and Magazine Comittee.

I may be too late for it, though. I’m not entirely sure.

When I graduate, I just want to look back with the knowledge that I experienced most of it, and took advantage of what the school has to offer.

Afterschool adventure #32

Wednesday is, hands down, my favourite day of the week because all the kids in senior school get to leave at 12.45. I usually go home and use the time to catch up with studying and assignments, but I decided not to today.

(I suggest you stop reading the post at this point. The rest of this is probably going to be mundane nonsense.)

My friend “T” had study hall at 1.30, so she had 45 minutes to kill. My friend “R” and I thought we’d keep her company till then, and we all went to the shopping center which is literally across the street from our school. This shopping center is, more or less, the main hang-out for any students from my school. We visit it so frequently that most students you run into should know all three floors like the back of their hands. It came as no surprise when we ran into friend “F”, who also had study hall, and he joined our little group.

We killed time at the pet store for a while, being entertained by the adorable six year old girl in the too-pink-to-be-legal sweater who took our hands and led us to see the fighting fish. Her father kept a close watch on us right until we left the store.

Frankly, I can’t say I blame him.

At 1.20, “T” and “F” decided to make their way back to study hall, so “R” and I decided we’d best be getting home. Naturally, as I was working my way to the closest exit, I ran into friends “C” and “H” who convinced me to stay a while longer.

After “C” took us to the $2 Shop because she needed to buy some birthday cards and “H” dragged us down to the Reject Shop because he finds they sell the best lolly bags, we all headed up to McDonalds to pass the time. We sat around a table and talked and ate till 2.06, at which point “H” had to leave to get ready for his audition for the school production. (I would’ve joined him in auditioning, but I had tuition at 3.30.)

“C” and I then thought we’d walk back to school, because she wanted to get something from her locker. We got a little side-tracked, though, when we noticed a shop right at the corner of the top floor that neither of us had seen before. It sold a lot of really cool, antique-looking furniture and trinkets, and the place was HUGE. You couldn’t have guessed it from the outside, but the place looked like a warehouse. There was ever a restaurant at the back of it, with it’s own balcony for customers to eat outside.

The shopkeepers clearly weren’t happy to see two teenage girls browsing through the items they obviously couldn’t afford, so we got out pretty quick and ran into six more friends while walking back to school. After stopping to catch up and leaving “C” in their care, I made my way back home.

I kicked back and watched some TV till my tuitor came by, and we talked about my SAC.
(I finished my first SAC today. It was a 4 page essay on Gwen Harwood’s poetry.)

Good times.

Bushfire Memorial.

I’m currently watching the Bushfire Memorial on Channel Ten.

I don’t think I’ve talked about the bushfires on this blog yet. I live in Victoria, but fortunately the fire didn’t reach my area. It was impossible not to be affected by it though. For a week, everything smelt like smoke and the sky had a pink-orange tinge that was completley unnerving. Still, I can’t imagine what it must be like for the people who lost everything.

Our school collectively raised around $14,000 dollars along with food and clothes to donate to the victims, and we’re continuing to ask the community for donations.

For anyone who hasn’t seen them yet, photographs from the bushfires can be found here:

Sixteenth.

Friend “X” had her sixteenth birthday party at Sofia’s today.
It was fun, but it was ridiculously crowded and conversations were hard to follow.
During dinner we called friend “N”, who moved to Singapore, and it was a pity that I couldn’t hear her because I haven’t spoken to her in months.
At one point, a spider hanging from a web landed directly on top of friend “L”s plate, which sent most of the girls into hysterics. Everyone backed out of their chairs and screamed, which resulted in the restaraunt having to send someone down to our table to make sure we were okay. We got strange looks for the rest of the night.

Great stuff.

MELBOURNE IS HOT.

Oh, man.
It’s over 46 degrees celcius at the moment (114 degrees farenheit).
I’m staying indoors with a fan pointed directly at me on full blast. It doesn’t seem to be helping all that much.
I’ve gotten used to it though, after the temperature stayed above 40 for a week straight not too long ago.
Got to love Melbourne weather.

First day of school.

Crayons

Yes, I did a quick google image search to spice up this blog. Don’t judge me.

The first day of school came around again. It was actually really awesome seeing friends again after that two month break.
The mind-numbingly dull “Hellowelcometoseniorschooldon’tscrewitup” speech aside, it was a great day. Mainly because we were allowed to leave at 12.45, but catching up with everyone was an important factor as well.

This morning, I realised that I’ve definitely grown very comfortable in this school over the last few years. There wasn’t even a hint of that back-to-school dread I used to experience. I can walk through the campus and recognise most of the faces I see. The teachers stop to have a chat. The younger kids look up at us with that delicious hint of fear in their eyes.

School definitely gets better as you get older.

On a different note: I’m done blogging daily. I think I made it to 101 consecutive blog posts and frankly, I got fed up with it. The ‘whenever I feel like’ approach suits me a lot better.

Facebook Tag Game: “25 Things”

Yes, after being tagged more times than I’d have liked, I finally decided to conform. I did put some genuine thought into it though, and came up with 25 things about myself that might entertain those friends who’d read the note.

I thought I’d post it here.
(I edited out my name, because I’m ridiculously paranoid like that.)

25 Things about Twilight:

1. The 25 things about Twilight are: “It’s Awful” repeated 25 times.
(Please don’t hurt me.)

2. A—- doesn’t know how to swim. The last time she tried, people screamed beacuse they thought she was drowning.
(The water was only waist-deep.)

3. A—- hates talking about herself in the third-person.
(However, she’s more than happy to talk about herself in the first-person.)

4. I seem to get more and more afraid of heights as I get taller.
(It makes sense if you think about it.)

5. Money is my comfort food.
(If I was a piƱata, y’all could be rich.)

6. I think there’s a difference between racIAL jokes and racIST jokes.
(The only skin color I’ve got a problem with is orange.)

7. I’m pretty sure everything looks better when it’s covered with a layer of snow.
(This could also make a decent “YOUR MOM” joke.)

8. I know how to say “I have an Eiffel Tower in my pants.” in four different languages.
(I have NO IDEA why, and that scares me.)

9. Sometimes, when I talk to strangers, I like to use a completely different accent.
(I’m working on my Irish one.)

10. My favourite word is Caramalised, even though technically it’s not a real word.
(Can you guess why?)

11. My clock’s been stuck at 1:23 for about a day now, and it makes me smile every time I see it.
(I can finally learn to count.)

12. Sometimes I think about VCE and Uni and careers and just generally growing up and it worries me.
(Thank goodness for anti-aging creams.)

13. I take pictures of you when you’re not looking.
(Remember the time you were doing that thing you shouldn’t have been doing, and you thought you saw a flash?)

14. I think I value honesty above almost everything.
(Yeah, okay, I DID steal your yellow crayon.)

15. I have the Barney theme song on my iTunes list.
(With a great big hug, and a kiss from me to you.)

16. I don’t know what’s worse: Having to go to sleep or having to get out of bed.
(Why can’t we just pick one and stick with it?)

17. The only gramatically correct thing my full name anagrams to is: ‘Anal exam ray, Doc Ralioa’
(I couldn’t find anything that made sense.)

18. I take forever to fall asleep if I don’t brush my teeth first.
(Cavity-related nightmares, anyone?)

19. My favourite color is green, and I’d like to paint my room green someday.
(I would’ve made an awesome hippie.)

20. I used to keep diaries when I was a little kid, and when I think back on it, I have no idea what happened to them.
(Sometimes I worry my parents are keeping them hidden to make fun of me later on.)

21. I imagine kung-fu fighting WOULD be a little bit frightening.
(Especially when they fight with expert timing.)

22. I don’t mind an argument, but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to hurt someone physically. I’d be awful in a fight.
(Yeah, I’m kind of a wuss.)

23. All cows eat grass.
(Or so I’ve been told.)

24. This was harder than I thought it would be.
(I’m distracted by mum’s new paper shredder.)

25. I don’t take myself seriously.
(You probably shouldn’t either.)

Cheers.
